Winning hands

Winning Hands is a Miami based company looking to revolutionize casino the therapist industry. The founders, one a casino porker dealer and the other a casino therapist saw a great need for a streamlined service that solved multiple user pain-points. After much deliberation and brainstorming they conceptualized a digital product that would serve as a great solution to user needs. Winning hands is working rapidly to launch an MVP, test assumptions and scale from there.

Problem

Today’s professional poker players and other casino guest often gamble for long periods of time, several hours in some instances. As a service, casinos provide contracted massage therapist which can be requested by guest. Unfortunately the process for requesting a therapist can be quite complex requiring several steps. Often miscommunication and or lack of urgency by casino staff in requesting the therapist leads to long wait times for therapist services. This inefficiency creates a bad guest experience as well as lost of revenue for the therapist.

SOLUTION

Create a mobile app experience where guest and therapist can connect directly without casino staff, trimming down the process to a simple request and acceptance of request.

Role

I was the only UX/UI Designer on this project and worked along side a project manager and stakeholders to maintain deadlines.

PROJECT SCOPE

Design an ios MVP for Winning Hands app and deliver to project manager meeting all deadlines. My goal is to create a beautiful interface that is intuitive to a broad range of users by using Universal Design best practices and Lean UX methodology.

LEARN

Stakeholder interviews I held several interviews with the Founders and continued to involve them in the whole design process. The founders expressed their understanding of the business and their desired solutions. They also shared insight into the perspectives of the different users including clients, casinos, massage therapist and massage therapist companies. This information was invaluable to my full understanding of the project. I used this data to empathize with the different users and see the experience from each unique point of view.

Brief and Requirements Here are some of the many requirements given to us by the founders. Some of these requirements became features within the platform.

  • On-boarding therapist and client

  • Therapist personal profile

  • Client personal profile

  • Therapist directory

  • Chat between therapist and client

  • Therapist reservation feature

  • Client queue feature

  • Therapists include their rate and any special prices on the app for client to see before booking

  • Therapist reviews

  • Way for therapist to flag users if their is inappropriate behavior

  • Way for user to leave reviews or flag therapist for bad service or inappropriate behavior

  • Therapists can easily book and manage their clients

  • On-Site location button

  • Therapist choose to accept the request, deny request or place in client queue

  • Select “Massaging” to allow the client to place himself in your Queue

Best in class research & out of category research Do to uniqueness of this app I did not have any direct competitors to do a ux audit on. Instead I decided to research apps that provided massage therapist and apps that connected people together through a central interface. Some of the apps I researched were Tinder, Shapr, Lyft , Uber and few others. I felt that these apps provided a great collection of best practices that I could draw upon as inspiration for my design.

Define

Personas I created two personas, one is professional poker player and the other is a therapist. These would serve as my north-star when designing the UX

Features and Feature Prioritization The project manager and I reviewed all features within the app and made a determination to which ones would be included in our MVP. This determination was based on development capabilities, budget and deadlines. We discussed our decisions with the founders and they agreed.

High level information architecture

DESIGN

Wireframes I went through several versions of wireframes each time I would meet with the founders and discuss my design decisions, after I would iterate and redesign a better version. As this app would have users of various age groups and levels of tech awareness, I combined many features withing the experience making it as simple and intuitive as possible. My goal was to create a universal design that could be used by a wide-ranging group of users.

Mockups After approval of the final color scheme I designed the color mock-ups for our MVP. I wanted to create something light and beautiful while staying withing the brand guidelines. The result was a white interface with light shadows and hint of color to provide guidance and awareness to important items.

Deliverables Once the final design was approved all files were delivered to the project manager and development team. I stayed in communication with the team and provided any extra files needed and answered any questions they had.
